“Sustainable Concrete Futures”: A Microlearning Event by POLI.design and Heidelberg Materials
A roundtable discussion in collaboration with Heidelberg Materials on CO2 reduction and urban heat island mitigation.
Event Overview:
“Sustainable Concrete Futures” was a day-long microlearning session organized by POLI.design and Heidelberg Materials, focusing on CO2 reduction and the mitigation of urban heat islands. Held on October 4th at the Campus Bovisa, the event brought together leading architecture and design firms to share expertise and innovative projects aimed at a sustainable future in the concrete industry.
Key Discussions:
The microlearning day, moderated by Simona Finessi (Founder of PLATFORM Network), provided an in-depth look at critical sustainability issues: reducing carbon dioxide emissions in the cement industry and mitigating urban heat islands through the use of low-impact building materials and construction techniques. Participants shared significant projects, fostering discussion and valuable networking opportunities with other designers.
After introductions by Anna Barbara (President – POLI.design) and Dante Parisi (eco.brand manager – Italcementi, Heidelberg Materials), the “Sustainable futures” panel featured Dante Parisi and Sergio Tortelli (Sustainable Solution Manager – Calcestruzzi) presenting the “One Shot” project, highlighting CO2 capture, utilization, and storage technologies in the cement business. Contributions from leading design firms included Euromilano (Francesca Di Lalla), ES-arch (Enrico Scaramellini), Lombardini22 (Valentina Porceddu), Giuseppe Tortato Architetti (Giuseppe Tortato), Balance (Alberto Lessan), and Avanzi (Matteo Bartolomeo).
The afternoon session, “Breathing cities,” showcased Italcementi and Calcestruzzi’s sustainable solutions, focusing on the permeable concrete i.idro DRAIN, with discussions led by Dante Parisi and Sergio Tortelli, and project presentations from Stefano Boeri Architetti (Paolo Russo), PIUarch (Alessandro Leanti La Rosa), Femia e Associati (Fabio Marchiori), F&M Ingegneria (Gisella Rizzi), Partner DC10 (Giorgio Piliego), and LAND (Andreas Kipar and Marco Bonanno).
