The project to transform the existing buildings in Via Legnone in Milan from industrial to residential (733m2 of total gross floor area) involves the three existing buildings built on the site, which are positioned around a court with a residential building inserted on the front that will not be part of the intervention. The idea of the project was to maintain the first building facing the street, with its original shape and characteristic roof canopy, demolishing and rebuilding the two parallel bodies inside the courtyard and giving it the character of residential Urban Villas positioned around a landscaped communal garden.
The street facade has been physically dematerialized thanks to the backlit opaline U-glass covering that makes it “liquid” with a large central window that acts as an “eye on Via Legnone” and immediately gives the contemporary stylistic signature of the project, connecting the interior of the large loft to the street front. The same front contains the entrance and the gate in weathering steel inspired by a Paul Klee drawing. From the pedestrian entrance, a communal pathway leads us to the residential area with a walkway in the light characterized by a wall of U-glass. The internal garden is divided into private spaces but interpreted as a communal area that involves both the contemplative aspect and exploitation of space. The residences, conceived as individual urban villas, are perceived as part of a harmonious whole, conveying a sense of welcome and privacy. The private terraces, a solarium with the connotations of a city vegetable garden, are where each resident can recreate their own realm of leisure or relaxation).
Eco-friendly materials have been carefully chosen: transparent glass for the interior and U-glass for the exterior allows the natural diffusion of light; stone transmits a sense of solidity to the exteriors and welcome to the interiors; wood gives balance the home environment with thermal insulation; patinable metal characterizes the entrance areas and exteriors.
Attention has also been paid to the landscaping with a design aimed at protecting the residences both visually and acoustically.
The courtyard is isolated from outside noise recreating a cozy, private environment imbued with positive sensations that create a relaxing effect also thanks to the use of neutral and natural colors linked to the earth, which are restful to the eye and not intrusive.
The sounds, scents and colours of nature stimulate the senses and create a hospitable atmosphere.
